Jordan Hall opened September 17th, 1907 in the former home of the Hon. Worthington C. Smith on Smith Street, brother of Gov. J. Gregory Smith. A military boarding school for boys aged 9-15, Jordan Hall was designed to provide students "critical preparation for Harvard, Yale and the best scientific schools." However, disaster struck less than a year after the school's opening when its founder and headmaster, C. L. Jordan, filed for bankruptcy and fled the state. While records show that the school managed to stay open for several more years, its exact date of closure is unclear. By 1922, the building had fallen into disrepair and was demolished in August of that year.
