Farming Franklin County Opening Reception
June 1 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pmFree
The Saint Albans Museum is hosting an opening reception for our newest exhibit, Farming Franklin County, on Friday, June 1, 2018 from 5:30-8:00pm at the Saint Albans Museum. We are located at the corner of Church and Bishop streets, on Taylor Park in historic downtown St. Albans.
SAM’s volunteers and staff have been working for almost a year to collect, document, and display materials related to our county’s agricultural heritage, including images, documents, ephemera, and artifacts. Many of these items were donated or loaned by community members and groups. This collaborative effort will highlight the history of the people and places that define rural life, agricultural/food production, changes in the landscape, and farming practices in our community. Our focus this season will include the legacy of maple, dairy, farmsteads, and supporting agricultural organizations and businesses in our region. We intend to develop this exhibit beyond 2018, rotating in new objects and stories each year – including interactive audio-visual elements and oral histories. The exhibit also includes a special area with activities and learning opportunities designed just for kids!
The Museum would like to thank the many individuals, families, businesses, and organizations who supported Farming Franklin County. Please join SAM as we celebrate our community history. Light refreshments will be served, and reservations (by phone or email) are appreciated.
